Introduction

The Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation has established a long-term postdoctoral fellowship program at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. The purpose of the program is to bring outstanding young Swedish scientists to NTU for two years of postdoctoral research and studies. The program is open for all disciplines at NTU.

The Postdoctoral Fellows are given the opportunity to participate in a broad range of interdisciplinary activities and programs that characterize NTU’s approach to research and education.

After completing their postdoctoral visit, the Fellows will be supported upon their return to Sweden and use their experience from NTU for the benefit of Sweden.

Hosts

The applicant must contact the scientist in whose laboratory/department/institute at NTU the applicant seeks to work. The applicant is required to submit a well-thought-out research proposal with clear deliverables together with a support letter from previous supervisor(s) at Swedish universities as well as a detailed invitation letter from an NTU faculty.

Criteria and conditions

The Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation invites applicants for postdoctoral fellowships at NTUs. The successful candidates will be employed by NTU with an annual base salary starting at Singapore dollar (SGD) 70,000. In addition, a family cost or cost of living allowance will be paid starting at SGD 30,000 and an annual research allowance of SGD 5,000 each year over their two-year fellowship. The Fellows will also receive the NTU standard health insurance.

Following the postdoctoral studies there is an opportunity to receive funding from the Wallenberg Foundation to support a research position at a Swedish university for up to two years, if the Fellow cannot find another position. After each year during this period a progress report shall be prepared and sent to the Foundation.

The applicants should have a doctor's degree not older than four years (after dissertation date) from a Swedish University at the start of the postdoctoral fellowship period, and a connection to a Swedish University or corresponding non-profit research organization. Furthermore, the applicant shall demonstrate intellectual excellence together with maturity and capacity to begin an independent research career and a desire and potential to develop as a future academic leader. The Fellowship cannot be combined with other stipends or positions.

Scientific merit, adjusted to the applicant's age, will be an important factor for the assessment.

A complete application should contain the applicant’s date of PhD dissertation, CV and include a list of publications, a brief description of the proposed research program and a description of the research profile of the intended host and supervisor. A letter of invitation from the intended host should be submitted with the E-application. If the applicant has not passed the doctorate exam at the time of the application, a letter from the supervising professor should be submitted as well in which the actual date for the exam is stated. Each applicant should also ensure that two separate letters of recommendation with comments on the research program are submitted with the e-application. The application shall be written in English.

E-application

The Foundation uses an electronic application system.

E-application

The application period starts December 1, and a complete application shall be submitted to the Foundation no later than March 1.

A list of successful applicants will be published on the web-site in late spring.
