A special appendix with the signature of the vice-chancellor (or the person designated by the vice-chancellor to act in his or her place) should be attached to the application. The vice-chancellor must certify that the project application has undergone internal prioritization and that faculty resources will be placed at the disposal of the researcher(s) in cases where such resources are included in the budget submitted. The vice-chancellor must furthermore certify that indirect costs beyond those approved by the Foundation will be covered by the university and that indirect project costs will be accounted for in accordance with the established model.

Enter the name of the university, college, academy, or the like.
Principal investigator, co-investigators
The principal investigator must work mainly at a Swedish University and/or academy. Complete contact information must be provided together with a CV. Enclose also a list of ten selected publications.. Names of all co-investigators must be provided in the e-application form (step 4 in the e-application) together with their CVs and a list of ten selected publications for each co-investigator.
Project, project summary
In addition to information about the title of the project, the amount applied for, aims, etc., an obligatory academic summary must be submitted in English. This must describe the project and its central research questions rather than the research area as a whole. A popularly pitched summary should be enclosed in an appendix.
A comprehensive project description in English is to be enclosed with the application, with adequate academic referencing. The project description, which should not exceed 10 pages, 12 p font, must state the project’s research questions/hypotheses, the applicant’s experience and own findings in the field along with the position of the project in an international perspective.
Infrastructure of national importance
Regarding applications for infrastructure of national importance, the crucial importance of the equipment and technology must be clearly stated. Special attention must be paid to the availability of other or similar equipment within the country. The project description must indicate who will be utilizing the equipment.
Itemized calculation beyond the amount applied for
A project budget must be attached to the application, using the Foundation’s template. For the application to be considered, the budget model must be filled in. The model is based on the accounting model adopted by the Association of Swedish Higher Education (SUHF). The same model must be used in requisitioning granted funds. It is of the utmost importance that direct and indirect costs be stated in accordance with the university’s accounting/budget model and that the information be directly retrieved from there. The Foundation may check the information against the university’s own accounts. For definitions of what different types of costs are to be assigned to direct/indirect costs, please see the SUHF accounting model.
The purposes of the Foundation do not permit unspecified costs or costs that are generally administrative in nature.
In accordance with the accounting model, the following costs may be included in the application:
Direct costs
- Salaries including social charges not exceeding 50 %, for the time individuals are active in the project
- Operating costs (materials, other costs, computer costs and travel and conference costs)
- Depreciation of equipment must be calculated linearly across the entire economic/academic life, not merely across the project period applied for. Procurement must be effected no later than two years after the project starts, and depreciation may thereby commence and be applied for two years longer than other costs
- Plant costs for individuals active in the project
Indirect costs
The indirect costs have to be itemized, for the actual project, according to the Association of Swedish Higher Education (SUHF) model. Information must be directly retrieved from the universities’ systems. The Foundation assesses these costs for each individual project application and will state what support, if any, can be given for indirect costs if project funding is granted.
Funding
In applications regarding infrastructure of national importance, applicants must describe how any subsidiary costs will be financed. If funding has been applied for, will be applied for, or has been received for the same purposes from another organization, this must be stated in Step 5 in the e-application. In the Project Budget appendix, it must be stated what portion of the project being applied for will be co-funded by the applicant’s own higher-education institution and other financiers, respectively. Moreover, other relevant allocations/grants for the principal applicant and co-applicants must be stated in their respective CVs.
Applications from private individuals with no long-term connection to an academic institution will not be considered. Nor will grants be given for an individual’s own studies outside of the Foundation’s regular scholarship program.
