The mapping of the genome of bacteria is now entering a new phase. The goal is to make it possible to design bacteria for new tasks, such as serving as the body’s own vaccine factories. If Siv Andersson and her research team at Uppsala University succeed, this will entail entirely new potential to create protection against contagious diseases like malaria.
