Marie Wahren-Herlenius' goal is to understand why women suffer from rheumatic disease much more often than men. Marie’s research at Karolinska Institutet is focused on the rheumatic disease Sjögren's syndrome, in which 9 out of 10 affected are women.
She maps differences between immune cells, what is behind the differences, and how these special gene variants linked to Sjögren's syndrome affect immune cells in me and women. In this way the hope is to find targets for drugs to prevent or alleviate the disease.
