The Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation has awarded grants of SEK 203 million for investment in infrastructure of national importance at Sweden's universities. The Foundation has been a major financier of heavy equipment at Swedish institutions of higher education for many years. This year's decision provides funds for advanced infrastructure in the fields of medicine, biology, technology, ecology and geosciences.
Among this year's applicants, Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg were successful together receiving SEK 114 million of the SEK 203 million awarded.
Awarded infrastructures should serve researchers at all Swedish universities.
Infrastructure grants 2014:
Chalmers University of Technology
Professor Jan Grahn, together with his colleagues, has been awarded a grant of SEK 39,150,000 for “A National Laboratory in Terahertz Characterisation”.
University of Gothenburg
Director Michael Klages, together with colleagues at the University of Gothenburg, Chalmers University of Technology and Stockholm University, has been awarded a grant of SEK 38,060,000 for “MUST - Mobile Underwater Systems Tools.”
Professor Andrew Ewing, together with colleagues at the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology, has been awarded a grant of SEK 37,109,000 for “The Imaging metabolomics and lipidomics infrastructure”.
KTH Royal Institute of Technology
Professor Jens Fransson, together with his colleagues, has been awarded a grant of SEK 23,609,000 for “Odqvist laboratory for experimental MUlit-SCaLE mechanics – MUSCLE”.
Umeå University
Professor Bernt Eric Uhlin, together his colleagues at Umeå University, Karolinska Institutet, Linköping University, Lund University and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, has been awarded a grant of SEK 37,000,000 for “A National Cryo-Electron Microscopy and Tomography Facility for Research and Advanced Training”.
Uppsala University
Professor Mats Larhed, together with his colleagues at Uppsala University and Karolinska Institutet, has been awarded a grant of SEK 27,866,000 for the project “A National Infrastructure for Preclinical Molecular Imaging”.
