Outside Lund, the world’s most cutting edge synchrotron radiation facility is growing forth. It will be 100 times more effective than those that exist today. The facility can be described as a super microscope that reveals details about nature’s smallest building blocks. More than 2,000 visiting researchers a year will conduct their experiments at MAX IV.

Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation has since its establishment in 1917 awarded over almost SEK 42 billion in grants. In 2025 the yearly grants to excellent basic research and education in Sweden was in total over SEK 2.5 billion.
